Welcome to the Wean Nicotine blog

A short note on why we built Wean Nicotine and what we plan to write about here — tapering, harm reduction, privacy-first health apps, and the indie route.

This is the first post on the Wean Nicotine blog. The product exists for one reason: quitting snus cold turkey is brutally hard, and “all or nothing” is the only style most apps support. Wean takes the opposite stance — pick a baseline, choose a pace, and reduce a little each week until you hit zero. No accounts. No cloud. No streak anxiety.

The blog will cover three things over time:

  1. How tapering actually works. What pace is realistic, what mistakes are common, and why the “wean, don’t punish” framing matters when motivation dips.
  2. Privacy and health apps. Why an app that tracks an addiction needs to be offline-first by default — and the design choices that keep the data on your phone.
  3. Building Wean as a solo indie project. Notes on shipping iteratively, working with the App Store, and using AI tools to ship faster without losing the craft.

If any of that sounds interesting, the App Store listing is the fastest way to try the app itself. Otherwise, more posts will land here as work progresses.
